African Market Place at the State of the Black World Conference IV – Nov 2016
The Institute of the Black World (IBW) invites you to be a part of one of the most historic gatherings of people of African descent in the 21st Century – State of the Black World Conference IV (SOBWC IV). Please join us November 16 – 20, 2016 at SOBWC IV, which is dedicated to the memory of the brilliant poet, playwright and political activist Amiri Baraka, in Newark, NJ, where his son the Honorable Ras Baraka is Mayor.
The conference theme is It’s Nation Time … Again and the event will include sessions and discussions on the State of Emergency in Black America characterized by persistent joblessness, poverty, economic underdevelopment, inferior education, health disparities, police occupation and repression, racially-biased criminal justice policies, mass incarceration of Black people and much, much more.
In the spirit of Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), the IBW African Market Place will be comprised of businesses owned by our people for our people. However, the Market Place will be in a prime spot in the lobby of one of Newark’s leading hotels located in the center of the city. Foot traffic will be optimum and shoppers will include not just conference attendees but also hotel guests and members of the community.
We hope to see you all, sellers, shoppers and conference attendees, as we celebrate our culture and businesses. Sign up now to take advantage of the substantial Early Bird Discount and save $100.
